Messages (below) from Archdiocese of Brisbane’s Office for Safeguarding Services –
“Under Standard 3 of the National Catholic Safeguarding Standards, Dioceses are encouraged to ensure that children and young people are informed about our safeguarding commitments and are supported to understand abuse prevention in ways that are appropriate to their age and development. Sharing this information helps empower them to recognise concerns and to speak up for themselves and others.
To assist with this important work, we are pleased to share our Safeguarding Guide for Children and Young People (here), along with two short videos designed especially for children: Care for Kids and Children’s Safeguarding. These videos (each around two minutes in length) are available on our website at and on the Archdiocesan YouTube channel: i) Care for Kids and ii) Children’s Safeguarding.
We warmly encourage you to use these resources to raise awareness among children and young people in your parish, ministry, or community. They may be especially helpful during Children’s Liturgy of the Word, the Sacramental Program, or other children’s gatherings.
We recommend that parents or caregivers are informed in advance if these resources are to be shown, and—where possible—that they are invited to be present. This offers an opportunity for families to engage in conversation and for children to ask questions in a safe and supported environment. You may also wish to share these resources via parish social media platforms or newsletters to further extend their reach.
Thank you for your continued dedication to creating safe and welcoming spaces for all children and young people in our communities.
Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility.”
“Please find here a further Fact Sheet on the upcoming audit by Australian Catholic Safeguarding Standards (ACSL).
In August this year, the Archdiocese will participate in an audit conducted by ACSL to assess our compliance with the National Catholic Safeguarding Standards.
The audit will include an assessment of 15 parishes, 10 schools, 5 childcare services, and 6 Centacare services.”
